I am one of four children and grew up in North Hollywood, CA. Growing up I attended all kinds of different churches, but never had a personal relationship with God. God was knocking on my heart though and sent a man named Doug into my life that I would later marry.
God had crossed Doug’s and my path while working at a temporary job and on one occasion Doug invited me to what he called a revival at his church. Upon visiting Bible Baptist Church in Tujunga, California on April 2, 1989, I was convicted by the preaching of the Word of God and God began to tear down the walls of unbelief and pride that I had.
Within a few months, I knew I needed a Saviour, so on June 11, 1989 I went to church with the intention of getting saved. I realized that Jesus paid the price for my sins once for all with his precious blood and all I needed to do was call upon Him as my personal Saviour.
Before ever agreeing to marry Doug, I knew that there was something that God had for him to do and one of the possibilities we had talked about was being a missionary, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.
During a singles retreat with our church, God had dealt with my heart about being a missionary even though I really didn’t understand the concept of what one was, but I surrendered my heart and my will. After the retreat I mentioned to Doug how God had touched my heart for the field and I was prepared to marry him and follow him wherever God would call him.
